Tips and Advice after Surgery | Breast Augmentation Montreal
Practical Guide...
Breast augmentation discomfort: Everyone will experience a
certain amount of pain or discomfort after surgery. You will have better pain
control if you take pain medication on a regular basis before your pain becomes
unbearable. Take your medications as prescribed. Keep in mind that healing and
recovery improve with good pain control. You may have a narcotic prescribed. You
should not mix narcotics and alcohol. Do not use narcotics while driving. You may
not resume driving until you have at least stopped taking all narcotics. Narcotics
have their own side effects such as constipation, nausea, vomiting, and
drowsiness.Breast augmentation anti-nausea medication: Nausea may occur following breast augmentation surgery and throughout the recovery period. Reducing the use of narcotics will diminish nausea. Occasionally, Gravol is necessary to control nausea.
Breast augmentation moisturizers: After breast augmentation surgery, breasts may appear to be discolored, reddened, shiny, or produce stinging sensations. This results from breast implant stretch of the skin. These symptoms are short lived as skin rapidly accommodates to the breast implant over the ensuing week. Some patients have found relief by gently massaging in skin moisturizers on the breast during the recovery period.
Breast nipple anti-sensitivity aids: In some cases, the nipples become erect and sensitive during recovery. Today's nursing pads and round band aids offer a means to protect the nipples from temporary sensitivity.
Breast augmentation healing aids: There are no scientifically proven medications to improve healing. We do not recommend any herbal supplements, vitamins, or special medications. Furthermore, all such special supplements should be stopped at least 2 weeks prior to your breast augmentation.
Breast augmentation scar aids: The quality of the final visible breast scar depends on a variety of factors. Initially, scars may appear reddened or raised. They will fade and flatten over time. Our breast augmentation specialists will often use the following scar reduction techniques: steri-strips or surgical paper tape over a fresh incision, silicone sheeting for the fresh reddened scar, and topical gels to facilitated scar maturation for up to 6 months. It is important to avoid sunlight and salon tanning of the incision site during the first 6 months following your Montreal breast augmentation.
Breast augmentation activity: On return home, it is important to commence nonstrenuous activities such as walking. Walking should be continued on a daily basis in and around your home. This will help prevent phlebitis and deep vein thrombosis in your legs.
Breast augmentation diet: Staying well hydrated is essential for optimal recovery. We encourage you to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. You may resume a regular diet the day after your Montreal breast augmentation.
